Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme project.

The aim of the WAMBAF Tool Box is to continue activities initiated during WAMBAF (Water management in Baltic Forests, 2016–2019), developing further the tools created in this initial stage with the aim to reduce leaching of nutrients and mercury to waterbodies in the result of forest management (with specific emphasis on drainage system maintenance, forest buffers and beaver management).

Total budget: 1 059 125 EUR
Interreg programme contribution: 828 825 EUR
LSFRI Silava Budget: 80 000 EUR

Lead partner: Swedish Forest Agency (Skogsstyrelsen).
Partners: The Forestry Research Institute of Sweden, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Natural Resources Institute Finland, Metsähallitus, Latvian State Forest Research Institute Silava, Lithuanian Research Centre for Agriculture and Forestry, Forest Research Institute Poland, WWF Russia, Karelian Research Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Planned activities:

  1. Development of wet area maps, machine learning;
  2. Development of beaver impact maps;
  3. Translation of WAMBAF films;
  4. Development of forest drainage system maintenance manual;
  5. Training courses;
  6. Action plan meetings.
