On January 17, the Latvian Academy of Sciences awarded senior researcher of LSFRI "Silava", habilitated doctor of geographical sciences Māris Laiviņš with the Kaspars Bušs name award in forest ecology and forestry for the significant contribution to Latvian forestry and scientific applications for practical forestry purposes.

Kaspars Bušs (1919–1988) – forestry scientist, researcher in forest ecology, developed theoretical foundations for Latvian silviculture and amelioration. The prize was established in 2019 in honor of scientist’s centenary.
