The aim of the study is to develop climate policy adapted solutions for the use of extracted peat fields and for the cultivation of paludiculture* biomass. If paludiculture implementation due to different reasons won’t be possible, other options will be provided. Companies with large active peatland areas or extracted peatlands will be selected to carry out project activities. The study will select 4 developed or partially developed peat deposits, for which a number of after-use scenarios with implementation activities will be developed, taking into account the specific characteristics of the site. Recommendations for the company's Green Course strategy will also be developed if the company chooses to create one.
* paludiculture is agriculture and forestry on wet mires that at the same time conserves the peat body. This is possible due to high water tables all year round and can be further enhanced by roots and rhizomes that grow underground and, in this way, even contribute to peat formation. The aboveground biomass consisting of reed, alder, peat mosses, and other paludiculture plants is harvested as a regenerative resource and then utilized on a material or energetic level or processed into animal feed.
