JSC Latvia's State Forests agreement No. 5.5.-9.1./0061/120/07/66

In some years, fires in the forests of JSC "Latvia's State Forests" (LVM) affected relatively large areas, for example, in 2002 – 1570.5 ha, in 2006 – 017.9 ha. LVM employees must make a decision on the future management of the fires, and the laws of the Republic of Latvia also stipulate that after a fire, the damages caused to the owner/manager of the forest must be calculated. However, there is currently no uniform methodology that would allow determining the future viability of a stand (tree) damaged by a forest fire. The previous methodology, developed by LVM, "Methodology for calculating losses caused by forest destruction" is out of date and does not meet the requirements of the current regulatory acts. The aim of the study is to develop a methodology for assessing the viability of trees affected by fires and calculating the losses caused by fire.
