On May 30, at the Estonian University of Life Sciences in Tartu, a research assistant of Latvian State Forest Research Institute "Silava", Pauls Zeltiņš successfully defended his doctoral dissertation Comparative growth modelling of genetically improved Norway spruce, Scots pine and silver birch forest stands to obtain a degree of Doctor of Science (PhD) in forestry.
The aim of the study was to investigate the growth patterns of genetically improved reproductive material of Scots pine, Norway spruce, and silver birch, and to develop individual tree height growth models to evaluate their productivity and forecast forest stand development. The results of the work make a significant contribution to the sustainable development of forestry, especially in the context of using selected planting material in the Baltic region.
LSFRI "Silava" congratulates Pauls Zeltiņš on this important achievement!
