Today, on March 15, the President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs, representatives of the Chancery of the President of Latvia and the Municipality of Salaspils visited the Latvian State Forest Research Institute "Silava" on a familiarisation visit.
During the visit President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs met with the administration staff of the Institute, the Scientific Council and the heads of the research directions.
The Director of LSFRI "Silava" Jurģis Jansons introduced the President on the Institute's institutional activities and discussed current affairs in the Latvian forest sector, including changes in the conditions of tree felling and forest reforestation.
The President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs emphasized that everything possible must be done to mitigate and adapt to climate change, while finding a reasonable balance between environmental protection goals and promotion of economic activity, thus ensuring Latvia's development and the well-being of its citizens.
At the end of the meeting, the President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs visited the Laboraotry of Molecular Genetics of LSFRI "Silava".
