On December 3 at the Ziemeļblāzma Palace in Riga, the annual awards of forestry sector "Golden Cone 2025" were presented. These awards represent the highest recognition for significant achievements in Latvian forestry, the wood industry, and forest science.

In the category "For Public Education", the main award, "Golden Cone", was presented to senior researcher of LSFRI "Silava" Agnis Šmits.

Agnis Šmits was honored for his outstanding and selfless work during the epidemic of spruce eight-toothed bark beetle, when he became one of the leading specialists in informing and educating the public. His professional contribution helped the people of Latvia understand what was happening in the forests, the associated risk factors, and the necessary courses of action, providing essential support to both forest owners and decision-makers.

The annual "Golden Cone" award is a Latvian forestry initiative, for the twenty-second time recognizing the most outstanding individuals and companies in the sector.

LSFRI "Silava" congratulates Agnis Šmits on this significant recognition and thanks him for his professional contribution to the sustainability of Latvian forests and public education!
