LSFRI "Silava" organized international scientific conference "Old-growth forests in the context of climate policy: What is and what is not an old-growth forest?" on October 12, 2023.
Several scientists of LSFRI "Silava" reported about the results of research projects within the framework of the conference: Āris Jansons presented the report Old-growth forests in Latvia and Daiga Zute – Many aspects of old-growth forests.
There was also poster session where LSFRI “Silava” researchers presented their poster-presentartions:
- Jaunslaviete I., Liepiņš J., Bleive A., Zaķe L., Sarkanābols T., Fjodorovs E., Donis J., Samariks V., Jansons Ā.: The occurence and effect of the stem rot on wood basic density in European aspen (Populus tremula);
- Zute D., Krišāns O., Jansons Ā.: New Forest Management Approaches: Climate-Smart Forestry by Horizon Europe Project FORWARDS;
- Bičkovskis K., Šņepsts G., Liepiņš J., Lazdiņš A., Donis J., Jansons Ā.: Forest and water: effect on carbon storage;
- Samariks V., Ķēniņa L., Kitenberga M., Liepiņa A., Lele A., Riekstiņa K., Jansons Ā. The long-term effect of forest drainage on fine roots in hemiboreal Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) dominated forested peatlands.
At the end of the conference, on October 13, there was organized an Excursion to research objects in old forest areas in Latvia.
