The general goal of the study is to create a system for acquiring knowledge about the impact of forest capital management risks throughout the territory of Latvia, using the available historical descriptions of forest stands and sample plots, as well as creating a new network of permanent research objects.
Specific research objectives for each of the three activities:
- On the basis of the data of previously created forest objects, to gain new knowledge for the development of recommendations for forestry practice for the rational placement of forestry activities in forest ecosystems;
- To obtain systematic, scientifically based information on the extent of damage caused by insects, diseases and forest mammals in the entire territory of Latvia, find causal relationships and prepare recommendations for reducing the impact of risk;
- To find out the state of ash groves in Latvia, the intensity of transformation, the possibilities of restoration and cultivation of ash groves in Latvia.
